What to include

Reporting an error

Please include the page URL, the values you entered, the result you got and the result you expected. That is usually enough to reproduce it immediately.

Errors in a conversion factor are treated as urgent — people order materials based on these numbers.

Requesting a calculator

Tell us what you are trying to work out and what inputs you would have available. Requests that come up repeatedly get built.

Measurement questions

Before writing, it is worth checking the guides — the common questions about what counts as living area, how to handle irregular shapes, and which conventions apply where are covered there in detail.

What we cannot help with

• Property valuations. Square footage is one input among many; a local appraiser is the right person to ask.
• Boundary disputes. Only a licensed surveyor can establish a legal property line.
• Permit or code questions. These vary by jurisdiction — contact your local building department.
• Specifying equipment. Our HVAC calculator gives an estimate; a contractor should run a Manual J calculation before you buy.

Response time

This is a small operation, so replies usually take a few days. Reported calculation errors jump the queue.
